I’m not afraid to admit when I was wrong, and whoooaaa buddy was I wrong about Exa Beauty’s High Fidelity Foundation! I first tried it when it launched in 2020 with mixed thoughts. I loved how it looked on some parts of my face, while it clung to texture on others. Seeing it in Ulta the other day, I decided to give it another try and I’m glad I did…because I was wrong the first time. It was me, not them.

Looking back, I had started a new retinol regimen which notoriously causes dryness and flaking. I think I was expecting some sort of far fetched miracle at the time where High Fidelity would totally perfect my skin, but let’s be real…everything will cling to dry flaky patches, not just Exa’s foundation.
High Fidelity contains microalgae actives, maqui berry, and hyaluronic acid – all of which are meant to protect and hydrate the skin. Additionally, this formula contains advanced pigment technology that doesn’t oxidize, and I can attest to the fact that this formula doesn’t shift tones on me at all throughout the day.
My skin is no longer dry and flaky, so rarely do I have issues with foundations laying poorly on my skin, and my recent experience with Exa High Fidelity has been absolutely fantastic. It’s important to note, you need to shake this foundation really well before use (which is really sage advice for all foundations). Once well shaken, I apply one pump to my finger and dot it all around my face. Then I begin blending with my trusty flat foundation brush, and this is where the magic happens. High Fidelity creates a hydrating – yet – satin veil of color across your skin without flattening out your features. The coverage is medium and buildable and extremely comfortable to wear all day. Perhaps the best part about this foundation – when I go to wash my face at the end of the night, my skin looks almost exactly the same as when I applied my foundation.

I’m so glad I gave it another chance because I truly love how it looks on my skin; if you’re looking for something that looks like your skin but better, give Exa Beauty High Fidelity Foundation a try. (My current shade is Gretta 460).
