Several times in my life now, I have experienced hairloss. According to Mayo Clinic, approximately 55% of women will experience hairloss by the age of 70. While some of that can be attributed to aging, there are other factors that can affect hair-loss like postpartum, medications, stress, and weight fluctuations. It was not uncommon for me to have clients in the salon experiencing thinning hair from these factors, and having experienced them myself from postpartum and post-op, I can tell you first hand that hair-loss flat out sucks. It’s confidence shaking, and quite frankly frustrating to deal with the bald patches and little awkward sprouts that poke up during regrowth.
I’ve been a longtime fan and partner of EVOLVh Haircare, so when they offered me a trial of their Better Roots line, I jumped at the opportunity – especially because I had lost so much hair post-op. Better Roots is EVOLVh’s line dedicated to reducing hair shedding and promoting the growth phase of hair follicles while maintaining a healthy, balanced scalp. True to my form, I decided to take before and after photos to mark my progress.
There are several products available from the Better Roots line, but the one I’ve used most consistently is the RootBoost Serum. It has a very thin, water-like consistency and smells vaguely of roses from it’s base of Bulgarian rose hydrosol, but don’t let the light consistency fool you…this formula is potent. Post-shower, I use the dropper to apply roughly one dropper full of the serum all over my scalp and massage it in, and on non-wash days, I apply a little just to the areas where I’ve experienced the most hair loss. At the 4 month mark, I was truly shocked by my results…I’ll let the photo speak for itself.

The density of the hair growing out of my scalp compared to what it was before I began my Better Roots journey is truly remarkable. In the first photo, my scalp was very visible through my hair in comparison to the second photo where you only really see my scalp along my part. The fact that this product is so easy to use, doesn’t make my hair greasy (it practically absorbs on contact!), and has no negative side effects compared to products like minoxidil has me 100% sold.
What makes this product so special is the combination of active ingredients – 10 to be exact. The most notably call outs on their website are Pea Sprout Extract to help regrow hairs at their original density and thickness, Basil Hairy Root which inhibits the enzymatic conversion of testosterone into DHT (DHT is responsible for hair loss), Swiss Apple Stem Cells which maintain the moisture balance in the scalp and delay aging of hair follicles, and Amla Extract which reduces the weakening and miniaturization of hair follicles.
I think other notable ingredients in this formula are Alpine Rose Extract (Rhododendron Ferrugineum Leaf Cell Culture Extract) which ‘clears zombie cells’ or aged cells in a tissue (according to manufacturer Mibelle), Danish Purple Willow (Lactobacillus/Salix Purpurea Bark Ferment Filtrate) which is anti-inflammatory, Prickly Pear Extract (Opuntia FicusIndica Stem Extract) to soothe and hydrate, and Copper Tripeptide-34 which aids in hair growth and is an additional DHT blocker.
This formula is safe for both men and women to use and compared to many hair growth options, it’s quite cost effective. One bottle lasts me well over a month with daily application. If you’re experiencing hair loss, I cannot recommend Better Roots RootBoost Serum more highly.
