I’ve colored my hair for the last 15 years pretty religiously. I’ve learned so much throughout that time, especially after getting my cosmetology license. I’m always happy to share when I discover something hair-changing, so I’m going to let you in on a little secret I learned during my interview with Boris Oak, founder of EVOLVh…
The UltraRepair Masque makes an amazing pre-haircolor treatment. It adds incredible shine, eliminates lines of demarcation (a.k.a. those funky bands that you can get from overlapping color), and extends the life of your color service.
I wouldn’t say my hair normally looks unhealthy by any means, but look at that shine. Seriously, my hair is never that glossy.
So here’s how you can use this special product (in salons or at home!)
Start with clean, damp (not soaking) hair and apply a walnut sized dollop of the UltraRepair Masque to your hair; comb through to distribute. You can adjust this amount based on the length and thickness of your hair but that’s roughly the amount I used.
Next, roughly blow dry the product into your hair. Do not rinse it out prior to blowdrying. You want it on the hair during your color service. Once the hair is dry, you are ready to apply your color. Note: you will feel some grip to your hair since you have a masque on it. It actually makes sectioning easier to apply the color!
For my hair, I touch up my roots first, and eventually apply color to random strands of hair for a dimensional tint (the faded older color acts as a natural looking highlight). Once my hair has processed, I quickly wet my hair and apply the remaining color as a toner for just a few minutes to refresh everything.
Shampoo and condition (I used the UltraRepair again, for good measure!) and style as usual.
What makes this so special, is that the treatment is on your hair, and then the color opens the cuticle of the hair allowing the product to condition while you deposit color. The UltraRepair Masque contains high levels of L-tyrosine which acts as a magnet attracting the color to the hair strand making for a more uniform color application.
