There is an ever-elusive unicorn of a hairbrush…a.k.a. the Mason Pearson*. It’s one of those special tools you hear about being used by celebrities and royalty, and you hope and dream that one day you too can have this special hairbrush. If Rapunzel had a hairbrush, this would be it.
Lucky me, my sweet husband knew I had been pining for this hairbrush for ages and he bought it for my birthday. I have had the ‘pocket’ size* for a few years but really wanted the full size for home use.
If you have hair that is prone to snagging while brushing, this brush almost completely eliminates snarls (which is so helpful if your hair breaks easily like mine). I have the ‘Popular’ brush, which contains two types of bristles; The combination of nylon and boar bristles is genius; the nylon helps to gently break up tangles while the boar bristles distribute natural oils which enhances shine and reduces static. The distribution of these oils helps to naturally condition the hair, and interestingly enough, I don’t feel like my hair gets super greasy anymore. It also just feels really good on the scalp.
The results justify the price point. This particular hairbrush is assembled entirely by hand; you don’t see this kind of craftsmanship often in a hairbrush anymore. The Mason Pearson company has been around for over 130 years with minimal changes to their products, showing that their product quality and design both stand the test of time. I’ve even read stories about people having these brushes their entire lives!
This is totally a splurge, but in my opinion, it’s well worth it for a product that will have a long lifespan and is top notch quality.
