I first learned about Nadine Artemis, the creator of Living Libations*, while listening to a podcast of On Air With Ella. Color me intrigued, she spoke as if she was from another world. She talked about probiotics and our microbiome, not using petrol based products as our methods of cleansers and moisturizers, how ingredients like glycerine are sucking moisture OUT of our cells, using OIL as a cleanser and a moisturizer, and exfoliating less often and more gently. Um what? I needed to know more. She and her husband Ron are the founders of Living Libations, a botanical-based apothecary of sorts out of Canada. Every review posted not only on their site but other retailers were absolutely GLOWING and everyone raved about her products, including a few celebrities like Alanis Morisette.
For all of my young adult life I had been a devotee of every drugstore launch you could imagine; luxury beauty too, for that matter. I don’t necessarily have major skin issues per se, however, I was always looking for the next best thing to cure whatever breakouts had popped up, things to prevent aging, dullness, dryness, ‘texture’, splotchy patches…you name it. My skin, depending on the day (and products used) could range from oil spill to Mojave desert with no happy medium in sight. And then I’d throw a bunch more products on in hopes that it would ‘fix’ whatever problems had cropped up. It was a vicious cycle.
After doing more research, the Seabuckthorn Best Skin Ever* seemed like the best bang for my buck given its wide range of usage from hair to skin concerns. I added it to my online cart as well as a few other items that jumped out to me (check out my post on perfumes for more details on what I bought if you haven’t already!) and clicked ‘PLACE ORDER’. About 3 weeks later, my parcel arrived.
The anticipation that had built up over the last few weeks was bubbling out as I gleefully ripped open the box. I quickly unscrewed caps, sprayed, and swiped all of my new treasures. Needless to say, I quickly fell in love with all of it; Everything from the actual products and high-quality ingredients to the unique fragrances that smelled foreign to my nose that was attuned to very different ingredients, all the way down to the simplistic packaging and cheerful colors adorning the labels and lids.
Harkening back to the initial podcast I had heard, I wet a washcloth with warm water and applied a squirt of the Seabuckthorn to the cloth, noticing the bright orange color. Also noteworthy, the fragrance that wafted up to me was bright, cheery, and fresh. I gently wiped it over my face, working to take off old makeup. Huh..it worked. My skin felt soft and hydrated without a trace of makeup left, and there wasn’t that tight dry feeling I was so accustomed to after cleansing. I pumped one more squirt into my hands, pat it on my face, and sauntered off to bed.
Fast forward several years to present day, and I am on my 4th bottle of that beautiful golden-orange elixir. It not only manages to take off makeup and hydrate beautifully, but it makes my skin glow. If you’re concerned about oil just sitting on your face, rest assured it soaks in pretty quickly; one squirt should be enough for your entire face and neck! It eases blemishes that form so they heal quickly. I’ve used it all over my body on days that I have gotten a little too much sun. I’ve used it on stretch marks to help them fade. A little bit warmed up in my hands makes a fantastic hair serum that hydrates knocks out flyaways, and imparts a lovely sheen (It can be used in wet or dry hair, personally I think it soaks in better in dry hair). Or a few pumps can be combed through as a pre-shampoo treat. This one bottle covers so many bases. not to mention it’s gentle and yet so powerful all at once.
To really understand why this product is such a shining star, you have to understand what makes seabuckthorn oil unique. Seabuckthorn contains vitamin c, a powerful and well studied anti-aging ingredient within the beauty community (there’s a reason vitamin c serums are popping up everywhere!), and it’s a well known lightening agent for skin, hence why my skin always seems so bright and glowing after using this oil. This also helps explain why this particular ingredient is helpful for acne, as it can help to fade marks left by blemishes, and also to help fade stretch marks. Seabuckthorn also contains high concentrations of omega fatty acids, especially omega 7 which helps to reduce inflammation and promotes healthy collagen. Another reason why this is so good for acne.
I cannot recommend this product enough. It’s your one-stop shop if you’re looking for something powerful that WORKS. And not only works but works so well you’ll quickly find that it replaces all the other bottles you thought you needed for gorgeous, healthy skin and hair.
